Technology
Definition:
Technology is the application of scientific knowledge to the practical aims of human life or, as it sometimes phrased, to the change and manipulation of human environment. It is the application of systematic, organized thinking toward the invention of a new device, machine, or method of producing or doing things. It includes highly advanced things like computers, to simple things like hammers and wheels. We are surrounded by technology in our daily lives, and most of us wouldn't even know how to operate without it. The purpose of technology is to solve a human problem or meet a human need or desire.
Importance:
People are so dependent on technology that they cannot live without it. Technology is very important and useful in all areas of human life today. It has made life easy and comfortable by making communication faster and travel faster, making movements between places easier, making action quick, and easy interaction. We use hundreds of gadgets in our homes, schools, and offices. You may be able to understand technology when you watch TV, use your phone, drive a vehicle, or use a computer. Today when technology has so evolved, people can easily communicate with one another from thousands of miles apart. E-mails, phone calls, and video conferences have made communication easier. Today technology has changed the way of accessing information. We can easily find any information about anything within a few clicks on our smartphone or computer using the internet. We can get information in different forms such as audio, video, text, image etc.
Common types of technology
Here are different categories of technology with examples for each:
1.Communication
Communication technology consists of any pieces of technology people use to communicate with another. Some early example of technology include Morse code and the telegraph. Below are some example of more modern communication technologies:
Television
Television sets transmit signals over which we can listen to and view audio and visual content. People use television to communicate important messages, advertisements, entertainment and many more. Most televisions receive signals from a cable wire or internet, which relays signals that direct a television set on what content to display.
Internet
Many people consider the internet to be the most popular and powerful communication technology. It allows people from around the world to interact through written messages, as well as audio and video messages. With internet users can communicate almost with anyone else and share information.
2.Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is the copy of human intelligence of computer systems and other machines aimed at performing higher level tasks that require human intelligence and are normally performed by human being. Smart assistants on our devices, such as Siri, Google Assistant, ChatGPT, and Alexa are some of the popular example of AI. Scientist make continuous efforts to improve AI technology and make it as closely intuitive to human intelligence as possible.
3.Space Technology
Space technology is an expensive field which employs a number of scientists to fill its innumerable requirements. It also help in space exploration and space station construction. Above all space technology saves many human lives in the future and even millions of lives so far.
10 of the Greatest Space Technologies of the Twenty-First Century
- Cassini-Huygens Probe.
- Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.
- Hubble Telescope | NASA.
- Kepler Spacecraft.
- Space X Falcon 9 Rocket.
- International Space Station
4.Mechanical Technology
Mechanical technology is the application of engineering principles to achieve tasks more efficiently. People use this technology in a wide variety of machinery, with some common example including:
Manufacturing
Manufacturing technology aims to produce goods faster and in a more cost-effective manner. A popular example of manufacturing technology is an assembly line, which greatly improved the speed of production process. Manufacturing technology benefits also include product quality improvements, better tracking and system analysis, faster shipping seeds and enhanced employee safety.
Heavy Engineering
Heavy engineering technology helps professionals perform tasks such as building bridge or digging tunnels. It helps transport heavy material, dig holes into the ground and make construction process more efficient. Other areas of heavy engineering include shipping, mining, steel production and aerospace engineering.
5.Information Technology
Information technology, also known as IT, involves the use of computer system hardware, software and telecommunications for the purpose of storing, sending, and retrieving information. This technology finds its applications in resolving business challenges and help streamline organizational processes.
Example of Information Technology
- Telephone and Radio equipment.
- Video conferencing equipment.
- Personal Computer.
- Performance and management software for managing goal setting and performance review.
- Content management software for blogging and collaboration.
- Computer Server.
- Computer Network.
- Web Hosting.
- Databases.
- Word Processing
- Internet.
6.Military Technology
Military technology is the use of technology to create new weapons etc, for war purposes. The development of guns, tanks, missiles, radar, equipment, fighter jets and aircraft carriers are all branches of military technology. Nuclear weapons are also part of military technology. Military technology is one of the most heavily invested segments. The speed with which this technology grows is dizzying. As countries try to outdo each other in terms of firepower, they place more and more emphasis on military technology resulting in rapid growth.
Conclusion of Technology
Technology has impacted almost every sphere of human life. Everyone has access to knowledge and information, most of the countries are democratic and people have right to freedom and equality. It has changed us socially, emotionally and physically. Rapid development in education, healthcare and housing has definitely made our lives easier and comfortable but our dependency on technology has increased to a dangerous level.
In bad way, technology has caused climate change. It has made us dependent on it. AI and robotic technologies have become a threat to millions of jobs. Pollution, nuclear wars and cyber attacks too are very dangerous.
Technology is the practical application of scientific knowledge to solve real-world problem and issues and improve human welfare
